Hello Parents and Families!
My name is Patti Mihalides and I am your child’s Third Grade Teacher. I hope you've had a great summer and you are looking forward to a wonderful new school year! I can't wait to meet my new students and in the meantime, I've been getting some things ready for our year together.
Slowly but surely, the classroom is coming along very nicely. Come the night before the first day, it'll be all set for us to begin our 40 week journey together. The pencils are sharp, the books are organized and eager to be read. The stuffed animals are excited to meet their new friends and the carpet is waiting for all the memorable conversations we’ll have together.
September is a month like no other isn’t it? Just like New Years Day, the first day of school is a time to set new goals and think about the exciting new opportunities for growth and change that lie ahead.
We make resolutions for ourselves at the start of each new school year; students decide that this will be their year to improve their printing and reading skills and teachers like me promise to make lunches do all the photo-copying the night before. I'm also pledging to get in some form of exercise before the school day begins. I can't think of a better way to start the day! I figure if I do here publicly, I'm more apt to stick to it! And how about all those great new school supplies, waiting to be used? Even if you’re not going back to school, it’s hard to resist the urge to buy a new pack of pens in September. It’s a great time of year for some personal inventory; a time for change, for thinking about where we are and where we want to go.
This blog includes important information about the class routines, frequently asked questions and all kinds of other useful information. I hope that when you visit, you feel like we're having a conversation together over a cup of coffee. I hope you feel welcome, that you laugh a little and that you find information that helps you to support your child's learning. There’s a lot here to read, but in my experience, the more information I share with parents, the more successful students can be. I hope you’ll visit often; I look forward to your company.
I’m really excited about the year ahead. It's going to be a school year like no other, so make sure you jump on board right away. Our time together goes very quickly and I encourage you to be an active participant in our journey.
