We had a few things up for debate last week!

As part of Morning Meeting, we learned about how to debate and engage in accountable talk. This week we debated the following topics:

  • kids should chose their own bedtimes
  • school should take place from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm
  • we should have a cafeteria at school
  • dogs make the best pets
It was so exciting to see everyone share their ideas and opinions and understand that while we may not agree on everything, we can still sit next to one another, play together on the playground and loan our glue-stick to a classmate in need. We learned that differing opinions are what makes the world go 'round. We also learned that there are times where our opinion is not needed (wink) because sometimes we must follow rules and expectations that are in place for our own safety (e.g. following fire alarm protocol at school).

Here are some photos I saved from Pinterest to help guide my instruction this week. I've tried to give credit where it's due, but was not always able to find the photo source.

Please email me at mrs.mihalides@gmail.com if you know the owner of any of these photos and I'll edit my blog post to reflect this.
